GUIDE TO VIEWING THE LIVE THEATRE PRODUCTION: The Laramie Project
PRESENTED BY STEVENSON UNIVERSITY’S
THEATRE AND MEDIA PERFORMANCE
Pre-Show NOTES | |
Before the play began, what did you notice about the stage? Was there a set visible (e.g. walls, doors, furniture)? Was there any music playing?

During-the-Performance NOTES
Just jot your notes; this is NOT a composition. Content is important; writing structure is not the focus during note-taking.
During the scenes, note whatever stands out or whatever feels real: · Are the actors creating the characters in the way you expected from reading the playscript? Explain. · How do the interactions between and among characters/actors match what you imagined when reading the play? · Do any items that create the setting (place/time) stand out in a good or bad way—e.g. costumes, furniture, props, lighting? Give examples. · How does the staging (placement and movement of actors) impact your understanding of the characters and of their connection to the storyline?

Remember to keep the program handed out by the ushers or ticket-takers at the theatre.
When you write your course paper (later in the modules), you’ll need to refer to the individuals in the production staff, as well as the actors who performed the characters. |
